Summary:

Horace is turning 11! Since it’s such a special age he decides to throw a great party, and all of his friends are invited. However, disaster strikes as lunch is about to begin. Who did it? Graeme Base takes you through his party with big, detailed pictures, and a little extra thrown in. Are you a detective? Each page is a mystery to be solved to find out who the culprit is. These photos are magnificently done and would entertain any child while keeping their brain turning. Where is the clue? And how do they all fit together? Take children on this mystery to challenge them to figure out clues, and to enjoy a great book! And don’t worry! Help is at the end if you ever find yourself stumped.

My Reaction:

I was instantly captivated by the intricate details in the pictures. Even without the clues I loved the book. It was fun to see the animals in all their different games and outfits. Finding the clues was a plus to challenge you beyond just reading a book. Although each clue may or may not help to figure out who did it, they still kept you thinking. I could sit down and read it again and again, and still have fun looking for clues and more fun extras.

Potential Problems:

I didn’t notice any problems. It might be frustrating for a child if they are not able to find, or figure out, the clues throughout the story. However, I think that, overall, it would be a fun book to read.

Recommendations:

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. All ages can have fun figuring out the clues to find the culprit. I think it would be a good read for younger children who like to be more interactive with what they are doing. They will be able to figure things out and have fun, but they will still be reading
